The view of the sea from the pool railing. It was so clear I could see the shadows on the bottom of the people swimming. But how did the Cobra's end up in the lap of luxury at this exclusive resort? Here's the story.
From Sicily we drove to Tropea, a town on the "Mar Tirreno" where we hoped we could catch a night boat ride to see the volcano on the island of Stromboli. The volcano is always active, and apparently it's a spectacular sight. We don't know first hand because the boats only go twice a week, and we missed the right moment. Hotels in Tropea (The "Riviera of the South") were priced in the "that's just silly" range, so we drove south again, looking for a bargain. We pulled into a "Holiday Village" called the Marco Polo, thinking that if it was just anything under 100 euros a night we would stay a day and move on. Well! It was the first week of June, the first week of their season, and we got our room for 64 a night, with breakfast, beach and pool included. We and a group of four from Germany were the only people there, and we ejoyed the best of it for three days before we went on to see what things are like on the "heel of the boot" in Puglia.
Nancy's Happy Place....a lounge chair with a view of the sea.
John's Happy Place...the only one in the pool!

Nelson's Happy Place? Well, he was inspired to buy a "shorty" wetsuit and spent his best hours snorkling in that blue, blue water where my camera cannot go.
